This article is a step by step guide to successfully uploading a Data Feed to Spaceboost in-platform.

Get Started

There are various points from Spaceboost that allow you to upload a Data Feed. The first is on your homepage, by clicking on the top central panel: 'Upload product catalog'.

Alternatively, you can head to Build Structures, Feeds, and click on the big blue + in the top left of your screen.

STEP 1. Origin

This is the most important screen of the Upload a Data Feed process. Here you decide what kind of Data Feed you want to use, what to call it, and - if it is Dynamic - how often to update it. 

This is the first page of the Upload a Data Feed process.

Under ‘General Information’, you need to name your Data Feed. The name you type here ('Name of the structure') will be the visible name your Data Feed will have in the Spaceboost dashboard.

The second field you need to fill in (Key name), is an identifier that we need to be able to distinguish between the different feeds that you upload. It has to be unique for each feed you create. Start out with 0001, for example, and, for your second feed, 0002. Or whatever you want ;)


Now it’s time to upload your Data Feed. You have a choice here between uploading a feed from a File, or from a URL.

From File

If you have a File to upload, you can upload a Data Feed that you have prepared (in CSV or XML), dragging and dropping into the box or browsing your computer to upload. The file must be encoded in UTF-8. When you save your CSV, go to Save As, open the dropdown, and select CSV (comma delimited) UTF-8.

From URL 

The File type is how your Data Feed is formatted. You need to select the option with the format of the file in your URL.

In the next field, copy and paste the URL of your Data Feed.

In this field (below) you have two options.

if you have encrypted your feed’s URL with a Username and Password, enter them here. By doing this you allow Spaceboost’s robots to access the feed. If you didn’t encrypt your URL (this is not necessary), just leave it blank and continue.

Finally, select how often you want your Data Feed to be automatically updated.


You can select every Day, Week, or Month. The exact time period you select is how often we will check the URL of the Data Feed you provide for updates and apply this new information to all the campaigns that are linked to this Data Feed.

STEP 2: Review

This screen is here to check everything’s OK with the upload. If you get all green ticks (and your products are correctly identified), you can be on your way in a matter of seconds.  

If all is well, this is the screen you should see.

If the Connected and Data loaded sections are showing green ticks, as above, you don’t have to do anything. If they aren’t, you need to go back to the previous screen and review your steps.

 

The ‘Products found’ module, above, is *important*. You need to check that we have identified the correct number of items/products, using the correct tag in the feed.

In this Data Feed example, above, in which the individual items are separated by ‘row’ - there are 5 items. Once you are sure your items have been correctly identified, click on the big blue arrow, and move on to the next step.

Step 3: Validate

Here you need to ensure that the right type of data is assigned to the columns of information in your feed.

In this screen, you need to validate the format of your data.

To do this, simply open your feed and verify that the right type of data (from the drop down menu) is in fact representative of how you entered it in your feed. This is so that when Spaceboost’s robots check your feed to use the information creating ads, it will know what format to expect and will be able to correctly interpret it.

Specifically, you should check:

  • Whether your CPA tag is an Integer or Decimal (it always needs to be a number). 
  • That the URL field is in fact a URL
  • If you have included a Price, that the currency is correct.

Once you have done that, if you want to generate new tags by using merge, reduce, and replace rules to combine or alter the information in the fields you already have in the feed, you can use the Custom Fields feature.

Step 4. Configure

Here you will define how your Data Feed will appear in Spaceboost. 

Choose how to name your items by selecting or combining tags.  

This is the step which will define how your products will be displayed in Spaceboost. So, in the screenshot above, if you choose id min-price, each product will be displayed according to the values that are in the assigned fields in the feed for id and min_price, for example: 1 $10.  If you choose category brand, it would appear as Sofas Ikea, or whatever you have put in your feed. 

And here you have to select the Product ID Label - that’s the unique ID of each item in the feed. Normally, this label should be: id.

Step 5. Overview

The final check.

And you’ve made it! Check that the information is correct, and hit the Save button (top right) to finish uploading your feed. You can now see it in the Feeds section of Spaceboost’s Build Structures dashboard. Where you can modify the structure, check the Products in the feed, create and check configurations connected to this feed, or delete the feed.
